DOGSLEDDING & SEA KAYAKING

Norway // 1.5. - 11.5.2025

Day after day, endless white expanses stretch before you — no civilization, no internet, no phone reception, only pure existence. In the Arctic, peace reigns: it is silent and calm, offering freedom from the constant flow of information from an outside world — in fact, there is no outside world. Here, you experience only what lies before you, and even time loses its meaning in a realm without day or night.

This expedition is split into two sections: Dog Sledding (May 1st – 5th) followed by a day of rest and preparation (May 6th), and then five days of Sea Kayaking (May 7th – 11th). The latest arrival in Tromsø should be April 30th, so you can check into your hotel and be ready to meet on the next morning.

The adventure begins on May 1st, 2025 when the team gathers in Tromsø. From there, we travel to Kvaløya, you’ll meet your dog team and learn the skills to become an effective musher before heading inland to explore the 3-borders region of Norway, Finland, and Sweden. After returning to Kvaløya for a brief rest, you‘ll prepare for the Sea Kayaking section, exploring the breathtaking island archipelago of Troms, Norway.

MOUNTAIN DOG SLEDDING

You‘ll be introduced to your dog team and provided with the necessary skills and equipment before heading into the pristine wilderness of Finnmark. Now you set off on your dog sledding expedition through the remote, mountainous regions that span Norway, Finland, and Sweden. For the next five days, you’ll traverse snow-covered mountains and frozen lakes.

Dog sledding offers an unparalleled and thrilling way to experience mountain travel and Arctic wilderness. Unlike other forms of wilderness exploration, this adventure builds a close partnership between you and your dogs. You’ll become an integral part of the team, where the dogs will look to you for leadership, guidance, and support.

As the alpha, you’ll need to lead by example, working closely with the dogs to navigate the terrain and tackle challenges, while you depend on their strength and instincts. What makes dog sledding so special is the bond you will form with your dog team. These hardworking animals will rely on you as much as you rely on them, creating a deep sense of teamwork and trust.

This experience draws on the rich cultural heritage of Arctic peoples, who have used sled dogs for centuries as essential companions for travel, hunting, and survival in the harsh northern climate.

As you traverse this remote landscape, you’ll be surrounded by breathtaking views: snow-covered mountains, frozen lakes, and vast stretches of untouched wilderness. The silence of the Arctic allows you to connect deeply with nature and experience time in a different way, fully immersing yourself in the serene beauty of this remote landscape.

Though dog sledding is physically demanding, it is suitable for those with a good level of fitness. You‘ll also benefit from the guidance of one of Norway’s top adventurers—an experienced mountaineer and dog sled racer who has competed in renowned events such as the Iditarod and the Yukon 1000 races in Canada and Alaska. His expertise ensures that your adventure will be both safe and exciting.

More than just a mode of transportation, dog sledding is an opportunity to bond with your dogs, challenge yourself, and experience the beauty of the Arctic in a way few ever do—creating memories that will last a lifetime.

ARTIC ISLAND SEA KAYAKING

This five-day sea kayaking expedition takes you through the stunning islands of Senja, Sommarøy, Kvaløya, Rebbenesøya, and several smaller groups of islands. Wild camping in this remote Arctic region allows you to explore the rugged coastal seascape and take walks through the untouched landscape. Paddling through this archipelago, with its mountains rising directly out of the sea as islands, is an unparalleled experience. The dramatic landscape creates a sense of awe as the towering peaks seem to emerge from the water, offering a unique blend of rugged beauty and serenity. Each turn reveals new vistas, from hidden coves to expansive fjords, making every moment on the water truly unforgettable. This region is considered one of the most stunning locations for sea kayaking and has earned its status as a premier paddling destination for good reason. The pristine waters, wildlife, and sense of remoteness make it a truly exceptional spot for adventurers seeking an immersive and awe-inspiring experience on the water.

The sea kayaking expedition will be a self-contained, five-day journey, requiring participants to bring their own freeze-dried or fresh food. A supply run to Tromsø will be organized, providing the opportunity to restock provisions along the route if necessary. This approach ensures that the expedition remains self-sufficient while allowing flexibility for resupply, enhancing the overall experience without compromising on essentials.

Expedition Paddler has been guiding and running courses in this region since 2008 and has a depth of knowledge that few other operators can boast of. Join us for an adventure of a life time.
