METHOD OF INSTRUCTION
International Coastal Guide Module
The ISKGA Method of Instruction module provides a structured approach to coaching and teaching a wide range of skills to expedition team members and sea kayak guides. It covers a range of instructional techniques, enabling guides to improve group abilities or create programs for teaching foundational skills to beginners. The goal is to equip guides with the tools to introduce and up-skill participants in various areas, though it is not specifically focused on kayak coaching. This module ensures that proficient sea kayakers can effectively pass on paddling-related skills. Guides must demonstrate a high level of competence in the subject matter before teaching others.
This course encompasses the essential basics of paddling a sea kayak on the ocean or other large bodies of water, the module also includes elements of sea safety, navigation and camp craft.
As paddlers advance through the three fundamental levels, they will work towards becoming skilled expedition team members, enhancing their abilities in paddle techniques, seamanship, camp craft, and navigation. They will also learn to support group objectives during expeditions.
This module's essential Skills include Kayak and Paddle design, Equipment, Sea Safety, Paddle Techniques, Camp craft, and Navigation.
